The purpose of the student council shall be to voice student opinion, to introduce and vote upon legislation and programs deemed conducive to the fulfillment of its purposes, to hold school elections, to promote school spirit, to raise funds necessary for projects and expenses of the Student Council, and to serve as a liaison between the students and the administration.

The student council shall consist of one student council president, one vice president, one secretary, one treasurer, one president from each class, one vice president from each class, homeroom reps.  The number of reps will equal two from each homeroom for each class.  The Executive board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, with prior input from the class Presidents.

To be a nominee, candidates for Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Class President, Class Vice President, or Homeroom Senator must have one year of experience on Student Council, must have no failing grades, and must have and maintain a C average during term of office.  Additionally, a student who has accumulated more than 35 demerits may be prohibited from running for Student Council.

 

Officers may participate in other activities as long as both President and Vice President are not involved in the same activity at the same time.  Neither the President nor the Vice President may hold an office in another activity, but may participate in a seasonal sport as long as there is an equal distribution of work and responsibility between the President and the Vice President.
 

The Student Council President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer will run independently and will be elected by the underclassmen.  Class Presidents shall be elected by their respective class.  Class Vice President will be the second highest vote receiver in the President election.  Homeroom reps are elected through individual homerooms.

 

Regulations for running for Student Council:  A student who accumulates 35 demerits may be prohibited from running for Student Council.  A student who currently serves on Council and accumulates 25 demerits may be dismissed from Council.  In the case of dismissal, both student and parent will be notified in writing.
Student Council meet each Wednesday at 2pm in room 200, unless announced differently.  A member who misses a meeting must put their name and reason in writing to be submitted to the Secretary and Miss Heffernan.  They are responsible to send another rep, and get all minutes from Miss Heffernan or the Office for Student Affairs.

Members are expected to attend the following (but NOT limited to) Archbishop Carroll functions as representatives, such as, August Freshmen welcome, Opening Day exercises for all classes, 8th grade day, The fall and spring Open House, and Parent- Teacher-Student Conferences to name a few.

Student Council members are expected to complete various Community Service projects both in the Carroll community and out.
