Kairos

“With God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Seniors have the opportunity to apply for the Kairos retreat. Kairos is a Greek term which means “sacred time”, or in theology, “the appointed time in the purpose of God.” It differs from the term chronos, which refers to chronological or sequential time. The Kairos retreat employs some of the principles of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556), a priest and mystic who founded the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits).

Kairos is an opportunity to grow in relationship with God and others and is also an occasion to become more aware that each person is created in the image and likeness of God. Retreatants come to recognize God’s presence in all things, including family, friendships, nature, music, and especially Sacred Scripture and the Sacraments. Hopefully, retreatants will come to see God’s presence even in the crosses in their lives.

“All around our senior class are concrete examples of what Kairos can do. I see it every day: in homeroom when I see kids praying quietly and not embarrassed; I see my peers not rush the prayers like before. [Kairos] heals hearts, mends relationships, strengthens faith life, but most importantly, shows them a God they previously only thought existed in a religion textbook.”
– Matthew DeSipio ’14

The Kairos retreat is conducted four times a year at Malvern Retreat House in Malvern, PA. The cost is $280.00 per retreatant, which includes room, meals, transportation (by bus), and supplies. Please note that assistance is available to those for whom the cost of the retreat would be a burden and that no applicant will be denied participation in the Kairos retreat based on true financial need (please contact Lisa Ritter in the Tuition Office if assistance is needed).

Seniors are informed through the postings on the Carroll website and morning announcements as to when registration for a retreat begins and ends. Registration is conducted online, on a first come-first served basis. Please click on the links below to register for a specific retreat.
