The primary purpose of the Guidance and Counseling Department is to help each student realize his/her potential and become a fully functioning person. Throughout the school year, counselors make regular and frequent classroom visits to all grade levels on various Guidance topics, including college information, career exploration, standardized testing, etc. Students are also encouraged to make an appointment with their counselor whenever service is needed.

The Carroll community is proud of the 208 members of the Class of 2016. With 94 percent pursuing a post secondary education, these young men and women were awarded $24,309,398 in scholarships and non-need based scholarships and grants.

For the past five years, Archbishop Carroll has the distinction of earning the most money per student in scholarships and non-need based grants of any of the Archdiocesan high schools.

Temple’s Summer  Owl Leadership Experience (SOLE) is a 3 week academic summer program that helps rising juniors and seniors get a head start on college with credit courses and an inside look at being a leader in different fields of study. Students that complete the college course successfully and later enroll at Temple as a first-time, full-time freshman, will receive a $4,000 tuition grant ($1,000 per year for four years), as long as a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 is maintained, as well as continuous full-time status.

    • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the basic financial aid form used by most colleges and universities and is available to complete now. Please check with the schools of choice to find out if they require the CSS Profile for financial aid. In addition to the FAFSA and/or the CSS Profile, individual schools may also require you to file an institutional financial aid form and/or submit a copy of your 2015 tax return. It is very important to file the correct forms on time!
      • The federal government is encouraging all families to apply for financial aid on-line. The special web site is Students and parents will also need to have a PIN, a personal identification number.   Paper applications are no longer available from the Guidance Office.
      • If there are any questions concerning financial aid, a reliable source of information is the Financial Aid Office at your college of choice. In addition, the regional offices of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) can be very helpful. In Philadelphia, the phone number is (267) 294-8204. In Delaware and Montgomery Counties, you can call (215) 801-7097. In Chester County, the office can be reached at (215) 205-5451.
    • Applications to the Maguire Scholarship have been distributed to all senior homerooms. If you need an additional copy please visit CarrollU (the Guidance Office). You may also download and print a copy here. The Maguire College Scholarship is now available to any student that has applied to any of the following colleges:

  • Attention Seniors: Any student interested in receiving college essay help can make in appointment with Sr. Marianna or email her at, she is more than happy to offer her expertise.
  • SENIORS/SAT Reasoning Test: All Seniors are encouraged to take the SAT at least once this Fall. The test is offered on October 1st, November 5th, and December 3rd. The regular registration deadline for the October test is in early September.  All seniors were given the necessary registration information as juniors. Students are encouraged to apply on-line at The school code for Archbishop Carroll is 394131. If your student plans to take the SAT at our school, the test center code for Archbishop Carroll is 39610. We are a test center in October and December.
  • SAT Subject Tests:  Please check all schools of interest to see if they require any “Subject Tests” and how these tests are used in the admissions process. The Subject Tests are offered in October, November, and December.
  • ACT:  This alternative admissions test will be offered at Archbishop Carroll on October 22nd. Please go to to find out more information about this test and/or to register.  The school code for Archbishop Carroll is 394131 and the test center number is 218110.
