In consultation with Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., D.D., archbishop of Philadelphia, the archdiocesan Clergy Office, and the Office for Catholic Education, Father Michael Speziale has accepted the position to become Archbishop John Carroll High School’s new School Minister.  Father Mike succeeds Tom Phillips, who is now an advisor to the bishop of Metuchen.

“I have been blessed to work with two amazing school ministers in my time in high school ministry these last six years,” Father Mike said. “I have learned a lot from them and I look forward to beginning this new adventure by continuing to try to be an authentic Catholic Christian leader to all of Carroll and to make new Catholic Christian leaders for the future of the Church.”

Francis E. Fox ’77, Carroll president, said Father Mike’s spiritual leadership is a true gift to the school.  “Catholic identity is first and foremost among what we do at Carroll,” he said.  “Father Mike is a faith-filled priest who knows how to connect with our students.  As our new Campus Minister, I know Father Mike will do well as he helps guide them on their faith journey as he lifts up the entire Carroll faith community”

Father Mike said he is looking forward to working more closely with everyone at Carroll. “Please know of my profound respect, appreciation, and friendship for each of you. I mean that! Know that professionally and spiritually, you can trust me and that we are all in this together with Christ as the center, guiding us as we begin a new school year.

“I am especially grateful for Tom Phillips who has worked tirelessly to make our school authentically Catholic. He has always been a team player, a hard-working man, and a faithful and faith-filled friend to me and to Carroll. He will be missed but we will keep him in our prayers as he begins his new venture,” he said.
A native of Willow Grove, Pa., Father Mike was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal Justin Rigali on May 13, 2009, at Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.

He attended Our Lady of Consolation Parish School, Philadelphia; St. David Parish School, Willow Grove; and Cardinal Dougherty High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood. Father Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Theology from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Mike served as an assistant pastor at St. Anastasia, Newtown Square, from 2009-2011, and was on the faculty at Archbishop Ryan High School from 2011-2014.

He will continue to teach Theology at Carroll.
