Academics
Archbishop John Carroll High School is a Catholic secondary school striving to instill in our students the lifelong necessity of personal faith, scholastic achievement, and social involvement. Committed to the academic achievement of all our students, Carroll's course offerings represent primarily a college preparatory curriculum along with a wide range of Advanced Placement and Honors level courses to qualified students.
We are proud to report that over 98% of our students go on to college, with a vast majority opting for a four year college of the student's choice.
Carroll students form a school of great diversity. Our classes come from over 75 different schools, four counties (Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia), and 26 public school districts.
Faculty
The Carroll Faculty consists of lay men and women, diocesan priests, Sisters of St. Joseph (SSJ), and Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM).
Advanced Placement Courses and Test Scores
Carroll offers AP courses in Literature, Language/Comp, Calculus AB, Biology, United States History, United States Government & Politics, European History, Human Geography and Environmental Science. All students who elect to take these college level courses are required to take the appropriate Advanced Placement test(s) in May.
Twelve Catholic colleges in the Philadelphia area in cooperation with the Secondary School System of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia sponsor the Diocesan Scholars Program. The program is designed to honor those students who have excelled academically and to provide them with the opportunity to gain experience at the collegiate level while continuing their involvement and growth in the high school community. The top 20 juniors, by fifth semester cumulative rank, are invited to apply for the program. Generally, five students are selected. In addition to three Carroll courses usually Advanced Placement courses, Diocesan Scholars are required to take two courses each semester of senior year at one of the following colleges: Cabrini College, St. Charles Seminary, Immaculata College, Neumann College, Rosemont College, St. Joseph University, and Villanova University. Diocesan Scholars do not pay college tuition. They earn full college credit.
In accordance with the requirements established by the State of Pennsylvania Department of Education and those of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, a diploma is awarded to Archbishop John Carroll High School students for the successful completion of the prescribed course of studies.
