The spiritual leader of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M., Cap., archbishop of Philadelphia, was the principal celebrant at a Mass on Sept. 22, marking the official start of Carroll’s 50th anniversary celebration.

About 1,100 Carroll students, faculty, staff and board members heard the archbishop say, “We are asking the Holy Spirit to be with us strongly during this academic year. One of the things I hope we learn in our Catholic schools is to love the right things.”

At the end of the Mass, Carroll students presented the archbishop with a special gift basket, and he received special birthday greetings from St. Katharine Day School, which is located within Carroll.

“What a historic day for Carroll,” said Carroll President Francis Fox ’77. “I am grateful to Archbishop Chaput for the tremendous generosity of time he gave to our school community. It will be remembered for many many years to come.”

Father Michael Speziale, Carroll’s Campus Minister, and Father William Donovan ’76, served as concelebrants.
