Dick Hyland ’74 and Frank Fox ’77

Carroll President Francis E. Fox ’77 spent some time in early January with Dick Hyland ’74, senior vice president of Golf at The Country Club at DC Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz.

With more than 30 years of experience in the golf industry, Hyland is a PGA professional, has coordinated Golf Digest and Nicklaus Flick golf schools, served as an instructor of PGA of America Business Schools, and was honored as PGA Professional of the Year in Florida and Arizona.

A four-year member of Carroll’s golf team, Hyland was MVP his senior year.  “Carroll gave me a jumpstart in competitive golf and I’m grateful for the camaraderie among our team,” he said.  “I’ve been blessed with a terrific life in the business of golf, no doubt about it.”

Hyland played at St. Joseph’s University and turned pro in 1978, The majority of his career has been focused on developing junior golfers as a highly-regarded instructor.  “If we don’t nurture kids and get junior golfers playing the game and enthusiastic about it, the game is going to suffer.”

“Dick is a prime example of a Carroll graduate who had a dream, pursued it and achieved it,” Fox said. “We are so proud of his accomplishments.”
